About Dr Sue Allbright About Dr Martin Allbright British Medical Acupuncture Society

There are many Medical Acupuncture terms used to describe a reworking of traditional acupuncture. They are  based on anatomy, (body structure) physiology, neurophysiology (physical functioning), pathology (malfunctioning) and the latest research to specify the application of acupuncture during a treatment of a particular western medical condition. They all use the key components of evidence based medicine. Research shows that the action of inserting of fine needles into the body affects the nervous system and the tissue(s) around the site of the needle. The needling of acupuncture point areas and some parts of muscle can stimulate the nervous system to release chemicals in these muscles, but also the spinal cord, and the brain. These numerous chemicals will often change the experience of pain, and/or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which then influences the body's own internal regulating system (1) Western Medical Acupuncture (WMA) is the phrase the British Medical Acupuncture Society use.
