'Blending an ancient medical approach of mind and body with modern health'

Acupuncture Research

We would like to share with you our personal view, beliefs and approach about the research that is presented on these pages.

We both value the research of modern science and the many developments that have been discovered.

We also value the depth of wisdom and knowledge of traditional and classical five element acupuncture, which integrates the many aspects of body and mind.

We acknowledge the information gained from research, and we endevaour to use it where appropriate when meeting the needs of an individual who is suffering in health.

We hope later to share more information on the five elements of acupuncture.

Moxibustion on treating conditions.

2017) Clinical Observation of Heat-sensitive Moxibustion Combined with Kegel Exercise Therapy for Female Stress Urinary Incontinence.

‘CONCLUSIONS: Heat-sensitive moxibustion combined with kegel exercise therapy achieves better effect than simple kegel exercise therapy on female stress urinary incontinence.’

(2017) Moxibustion for Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

‘The results revealed that moxibustion might more favorably relieve the severity and frequency of CINV, compared with no treatment (RR: 2.04, 95% CI: 1.42–2.93); moxibustion might have stronger effects than antiemetic drugs (RR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.27–2.76).’

(2017) The Treatment of Glucocorticoid Steroid Resistant Chronic Inflammatory Disease with Moxa Tar .

The practitioner is trying out using moxa on laryngeal problems, COPD, resistant eczema, atrophic gastritis, angina and diabetic foot ulcers. Interesting findings however all his studies are too small and open to observer bias.

(2017) OSTEOPOROSIS. At present the mainstay for the treatment of osteoporosis is medication and exercise howeverheat-sensitive moxibustion plus alendronate sodium (medication) was better than alendronate sodium alone in enhancing femoral great trochanter bone minderal density (BMD). Additionally, heat-sensitive moxibustion plus alendronate sodium was been shown to improve the level f amino-terminal procollagen of type 1 collagen (P1NP), (a biochemical measure of bone health) compared to alendronate sodium alone.’ However the size of the participants in the trials means they are too small to be reliable and larger scale trials are needed.

(2017) NECK PAIN. Moxibustion combined with acupuncture is better than acupuncture or moxibustion alone for helping cervical spondylitic radiculopathy ‘acupuncture combined with heat-sensitive moxibustion in treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (neck pain) is superior to that of simple acupuncture or traditional suspended moxibustion’

(2017) OSTEOARTHRITIS KNEE Moxibustion helps in the treatment of osteoarthritis (knee) ‘The existing trial evidence is sufficiently convincing to suggest that moxibustion, compared with sham moxibustion and oral drugs, is effective for pain reduction and symptom management in Knee Osteoarthritis.

(2016) CROHNS DISEASE. Moxibustion has been shown to help in alleviating symptoms of Crohns disease and also improving neuromodulation of the brain. The results suggest that both treatments (moxibustion and electroacupuncture) improved the disease condition and quality of life.
