We would like to share with you our personal view, beliefs and approach about the research that is presented on these pages.

We both value the research of modern science and the many developments that have been discovered.

We also value the depth of wisdom and knowledge of traditional and classical five element acupuncture, which integrates the many aspects of body and mind.

We acknowledge the information gained from research, and we endevaour to use it where appropriate when meeting the needs of an individual who is suffering in health.

We hope later to share more information on the five elements of acupuncture.

Immune reponse and Immune Regulation

(2018) Electroacupuncture attenuates inflammatory responses and intra-abdominal pressure in septic patients

'Methods: Eighty-two septic patients with intestinal dysfunction manifested syndrome of obstruction of the bowels Qi were randomly assigned to control group (n = 41) and EA group (n = 41). Patients in control group were given conventional therapies including fluid resuscitation, antiinfection, vasoactive agents, mechanical ventilation (MV), supply of enteral nutrition, and glutamine as soon as possible. In addition to conventional therapies, patients in EA group underwent 20-minutes of EA at ST36-ST37 twice a day for 5 days. At baseline, posttreatment 1, 3, and 7 days, serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and IAP levels, were measured, respectively. And days on MV, length of stay in intensive care unit (ICU) and 28 days mortality were recorded..

Results: The serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1β and IAP levels at posttreatment 1, 3, and 7 days were lower significantly in the EA group compared with the control group. There were no significant differences in the duration of MV, length of stay in ICU, and 28d mortality between the groups.

Conclusions: EA at ST36-ST37 attenuated inflammatory responses through reduction in serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1β and IAP in septic patients with intestinal dysfunction manifested syndrome of obstruction of the bowels Qi.

(2017) Early Traditional Chinese Medicine bundle therapy for the prevention of sepsis acute gastrointestinal injury in elderly patients with severe sepsis.

'Methods: The patients in the intervention group were treated with Chinese acupuncture at the acupoints of Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming: Zusanli (ST36, bilateral), Tianshu (ST25 bilateral), Shangjuxu (ST37 bilateral), and Xiajuxu (ST39 bilateral).

Conclusions: In conclusion, for elderly patients with severe sepsis, early TCM bundle therapy could help avoiding Acute Gastrointestinal Injury and improving prognosis.

However the use of these acupuncture points was also in conjunction with a large array of herbs so the total effect cannot be attribted to the acupuncture alone.Wang Y, Zhang Y, Jiang R..(2017) Early Traditional Chinese Medicine bundle therapy for the prevention of sepsis acute gastrointestinal injury in elderly patients with severe sepsis.Sci Rep 2017;7:46015 doi:10.1038/srep-46015

(2016) Effects of Electro-acupuncture at Zusanli, Guanyuan for Sepsis Patients and Its Mechanism through Immune Regulation.

Conclusions: Electro-acupuncture at Zusanli (ST36) and Guanyuan (CV4) could improve clinical curative effect in patients with sepsis, which might be achieved by regulation of the immune system.
