We would like to share with you our personal view, beliefs and approach about the research that is presented on these pages.

We both value the research of modern science and the many developments that have been discovered.

We also value the depth of wisdom and knowledge of traditional and classical five element acupuncture, which integrates the many aspects of body and mind.

We acknowledge the information gained from research, and we endevaour to use it where appropriate when meeting the needs of an individual who is suffering in health.

We hope later to share more information on the five elements of acupuncture.

(2018) The Effect of Acupuncture Therapy on Blood Pressure Decrease toward Elderly with Hypertension Diagnosist in Panti Werdha Mojopahit, Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia

'Total sample 16 respondents (8 respondents in treatment groups and 8 respondents in control group)... Result shows between the two groups, after acupuncture therapy in 4 times (in 4 days) there was a significant decrease of blood pressure. Treatment group mean systolic/diastolic 172.50/107.5mmHg before and after treatment mean systolic/diastolic 150/90mmHg'

However there is no information on what acupuncture points were used, the needling technique. The number of participants is extrememly low and we do not know whether the recording of blood pressure was done blind and independently.

(2017) Reduction of Blood Pressure by Electro-Acupuncture in Mild to Moderate Hypertensive Patients: Randomized Controlled Trial

Summary. This study demonstrated that systolic and diastolic blood pressures of patients with prehypertension (systolic pressures 130-140 mm Hg) and mild hypertension (140-170/85-110 mm Hg) respond to electrical stimulation of the P5-6 and ST36-37 acupoints, located over the median and deep peroneal nerves. In contrast, there is no blood pressure reduction in response to stimulation of other points LI6-7 and G37-39, located over the superficial radial and peroneal nerves. Thus, over a 4-6 week period electro acupuncture applied in standardized point specific protocol once weekly for 30 min lowers the blood pressure of hypertensive subjects not on antihypertensive medical therapy. This response is persistent in a group of high responders, which comprise approximately 70% of the patient population, lasting for a month after termination of acupuncture and for at least six months during monthly maintenance therapy. The mechanisms underlying these blood pressure actions of electro acupuncture include reductions in both sympathetic outflow, as reflected by plasma norepinephrine, and renin-aldosterone

• Electro acupuncture, through a neurohumoral mechanism, lowers blood pressure in 70% of subjects with mild hypertension when it is applied in a standardized manner at acupuncture points overlying deep somatic nerve pathways.

(2016) Effect of laser acupuncture in mild benign hypertensive female patients

'Low-level laser acupuncture treatment (laser wavelength of 560 nm, 90 sec for each point, twice weekly for 6 weeks) resulted in lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure by stimulating the points LI 4 LI 11, Sp 6 and P 6.' However no long term follow up.
